Sedation Dentistry in NE Calgary, AB

Staying calm during a dental procedure can be tough for many people. At Zen Dental, we’re always working on making the atmosphere of our office as relaxing as possible. Keeping patients calm during their visits is one of our top priorities.

We take the time to explain to patients the procedures they’re about to have and what to expect. Sometimes, however, patients continue to suffer from anxiety at the dentist’s office. Sedation dentistry is a way to help patients relax and lose their anxiety. Patients looking for sedation dentistry in Calgary, AB, can find it here. We offer two forms of sedation: inhalation and oral.

Inhalation Sedation

Inhalation sedation is achieved by having the patient inhale laughing gas through a mask. Patients who inhale laughing gas will start to feel more relaxed and less anxious. Inhalation sedation won’t put you to sleep. You will remain conscious during the procedure and will remember everything that happens.

The only difference is that you won’t feel anxious. Keeping patients relaxed during procedures helps us do our job better. Tense and agitated patients tend to move frequently, which can disrupt us while working. By remaining calm and tense-free, the procedure will be completed in a shorter time and with fewer disruptions.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is more intense than inhalation sedation. Oral sedation is achieved by giving a patient a pill to swallow that will help calm them down. The choice of sedation will depend on a patient’s level of anxiety.

Patients that are mildly anxious will most likely only receive laughing gas. If they remain tense, we’ll use oral sedation. It’s also possible to start with oral sedation in patients that are having a hard time calming down or sitting down for a procedure.

Rest assured that our dentists are experts at inhalation and oral sedation. Patients will be sedated safely and with the appropriate doses. It’s recommended that you find someone to drive you home as you might not feel in the best shape to drive. There are no precautions to be taken by the patient before being sedated.
